The Scout section is for young people, usually aged between 10½ and 14 years. A young person can come in to the troop at 10 and may stay until they are 14 years old. The Scout Troop is the third and final section in the Scout Group.

Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. "Participation" rather than meeting set standards is the key approach and for the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of Challenges Awards and Activity Badges. Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes

Being outdoors is important and half the programme is given over to taking part in both the traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking as well as the wide range of adventurous activities, anything from abseiling to yachting.

Programme

Please find attached a list of our proposals for 2012 – this will obviously be subject to changes! But importantly there are some biggies coming up for the centenary celebrations and we would like as many scouts as possible to be able to join in with the outdoor activities – we hope to do lots of fundraising so costs can be kept to a minimum, each scout will have his hours of fundraising allocated against his name to ensure fairness to all in sharing the funds out.

On fundraising – please try to sell the Christmas Scottish Places Quiz for the centenary funds!£1 a go – it’s fun at Christmas when the telly gets boring!

If you want your son/daughter to attend camps but have other commitments such as Rugby or football on a Sunday am please come and speak to myself or Vikki or James as we can arrange early pick up for some camps. In addition if you are struggling to afford activities especially if you have more than one child in the group, please make an appointment to speak to us as there will always be funds available for activities and there will be fundraising opportunities throughout the year to make these camps affordable your son/daughter can have their funds from Bag packs etc to offset camp fees.

Many of these camps are fantastic opportunities for the scouts to gain valuable life skills and scout badges as well as being fun! Please make the most of them and if you would like to attend as a helper please let us know so we can arrange the “protection of Vulnerable Groups” forms for you in advance.
