Letter to Parents / Guardians regarding Subs next year

10 October 2011

Dear Parents / Guardians

I’m writing to let you know that the way we collect subs will change from next term.

As I’m sure you can imagine, the subs are vital to help pay for leaders training, buildings insurance, badges, maintenance, equipment repairs, programme materials and so on.
However, it’s increasingly difficult to support the amount of work involved in collecting subs the way we do now, especially with the extra units we’ve opened over the last year.  We’re also aware of the budgeting difficulties caused for those who pay subs - it’s a lot of money to
find all at once.

We’re therefore changing to monthly standing orders which will collect subs over twelve equal (and much smaller!!) monthly payments.  Subs will be paid automatically so there won’t be any more nagging reminders for late payments.

The benefits also include a drastic reduction in the amount of admin work that our leaders have to do and this will free-up more of their time for core Scouting activities.  And don’t forget, it’ll also make it much easier to budget for subs payments, particularly those who pay subs for more than one child.

Setting up a standing order is easy and free.  You’ll soon be given a standing order mandate with a unique reference number.  It’s extremely important to use the reference number so we know it’s your payment we’ve received and not someone else’s.  We plan to have everything ready for you to make your first standing order payment on 3rd January 2012, although thiswill be confirmed nearer the time and there’s no need to do anything just yet.

If you have any questions you can speak to your child’s leader in the first instance.  In the meantime, I’d like to thank you for your continued support.

Yours in Scouting

I Connor, Treasurer
For and on behalf of Group Executive Committee
