Get Involved!!!

The 14th Midlothian Bonnyrigg Scout Group wants to expand, to meet large demand and is reaching out to the local community to see if we can achieve this together. The Scout Group currently has 80 young people who could start right now, if we had the places available.

So to meet this demand we want to create new Beavers, Cubs and Scout sections within the Scout Group and we are looking for volunteers to run these new sections and also volunteers to help on our Executive Committee or help the Group with other pieces of work.

We are inviting any adult who is interested to come along to a informal meeting to find out more. This will take place on:

Thursday 14th April 2016 at 7pm in the Library at the Lasswade Centre, Eskdale Drive, Bonnyrigg.

Children of parents who volunteer for the Scout Group will be given priority on the waiting List. Volunteering can also be flexible to fit in with you. So please do come along on the 14th to find out more.

Reminder – Subs Increase from £7 to £8 per month from April.

Parents over the last week or so should have received a letter with their child’s name and unique reference on it and details of our new sort code.

Increase in Subs from April 2016

Dear Parent / Guardian

I writing to you to let you know that the Scout Group Executive has decided, that from April 2016, monthly Subs will increase by £1 per month to £8, paid 12 months of the year (Total of £96 per year).

Please do not change your Standing Order, there is one more more payment of £7 per child to be paid in March.

The last time we increased our fees was in 2012, and due to increased costs such as:

  • an increase in our Scout Association membership fees (which includes Liability insurance)
  • Programme resources such as badges
  • Gas and Electricity costs and other costs associated with running our own Scout Hall.
  • Other associated costs.

Further details will follow during March, of how to pay from April 2016.

We appreciate a rise of any kind is unwelcome, however we feel that Scouting continues to be good value.

Beetle Drive and Annual General Meeting

The Scout Group will be holding a Beetle Drive, with a short Annual General Meeting on Friday 23rd October 2015, in the Scout Hall, Edindean Road, Bonnyrigg. Entrance is £2 for adults, children free. (People who only wish to stay for the AGM will not be charged)

The event will start at 7pm and will be finished by 8.30pm.

We will be holding a raffle, so any donations for this are very welcome.

Final Group Camp Info 4/5/6 Sept

Please find below attached final detail letters of the Group Camp. Because of the Summer Holidays, it is still possible to for your child to attend , but you must act quickly.

For Beavers (Visiting 5th Sept)
If you have NOT yet sent in the form and £5, you can still do this, but it must be received your Beaver Leader by Tuesday 1st September at the very latest. Could you also indicate to your Leader, that your child will attend this week by email / text or by speaking to them. Forms are available below.

For Cubs / Scouts and Explorers
If you have NOT yet sent in the form and £10 deposit and your child would like to attend, this can now been done up to Wednesday 26th August. Blank forms can be downloaded below

The total cost of the camp is £35, therefore for those that have already paid the £10 deposit, The balance of £25 has to be fully paid by Wed 2nd September to your Section Leader. Any cheques should be made payable to “14th Midlothian Bonnyrigg Scout Group”

AGM and Beetle Drive

The Scout Group has just had a very successful Annual General Meeting and Beetle Drive.

Richard Fairbairn, Group Scout Leader thanked everyone for their support over the year.

We raised £81.40 for the Scout Group funds and also £91.50 for The Scouts trip to Holland Next Year. Thanks to everyone who attended and donated.

Rag Bag Textile Recycling

The Scout Group is participating in the Rag Bag textile recycling scheme which provides regular fundraising for the Scout Group and raises awareness about recycling.

Please bring any of the below unwanted items in a securely tied plastic bag and deposit them in the Collection banks next to the Hall

Rag Bag can accept good quality clean Men’s, Ladies and Children’s clothing, belts, bags and paired shoes (tied together).

The bags will be collected and transported to the Rag Bag factory where they will be sorted and graded for reuse or recycling.
